Consider investing the lump sum in a liquid fund and initiating STP ( systematic transfer plan). I have found this beneficial since I get more from the liquid fund than from a bank savings account. A good liquid fund provides decent returns. The only catch is that you need to find an AMC that has both a well performing liquid fund and equity fund.

Even STP cannot beat the lumpsum investment because more time fund is kept under the non equity investment.
